Hiking

As varied as the intense colours of our countryside, the walks in the Basque Country are suitable for all levels and desires.

On foot, on horseback or by bicycle, everybody will find the healthy joy of preserved nature on our trails. And they are open all year round.

At the Domaine Berrua, in July/August, you have the possibility of going on an excursion with a sports host and the director to discover the panoramic views of the Rhune.

Hiking in the Basque Country

A preserved territory with many facets, between the ocean and the first Pyrenean mountains, crossed by the mythical paths of Compostela, the Basque Country is a delight for lovers of walking and hiking. Nature lovers are not mistaken: on the sea side or on the land side, many hiking routes offer privileged views of the coast or the hinterland.

One of the most beautiful hikes to do during your stay is the ascent of the Rhune, which offers an exceptional panoramic view of the Atlantic from its summit. From Hendaye to Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the marked out coastal path takes you to discover the preserved nature of the Basque coast road and the wild spaces that the coast still conceals between the two seaside resorts.

Starting from the picturesque village of Itxassou, famous for its cherry culture, a pretty easy and family hike leads you to the footstep of Roland, a legendary rock drilled on the banks of the Nive. The stage of the Way of Compostela linking Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and Roncesvalles is an adventure to be tried for the more experienced walkers.

From the Ibardin pass, famous for its bellows, a walk to Lake Xoldokogaina is a must: this very accessible hike offers sublime and varied views.
